Tonight I was too tired to cook, so it was everyone for themselves. Mike decided he wanted Kraft Mac & Cheese, so I said I would look to see if we had any in the pantry. We did have two boxes, but I noticed the expiration date was November 2005.
Mike said he didn't care, and that those expiration dates are some type of marketing scheme on the part of the manufacturer. I said canned food certianly kept for quite some time, but this being boxed food should probably be thrown out. I told him to feel free to make the mac and cheese, but I was having a sandwich. I'm not eating food older than my son unless I'm eating a G.I. Military Ration (those things last FOREVER).
Now I don't usually keep food that long, and in this case I think we procured the mac & cheese from my sister when she moved out of state and cleaned out her pantry. So I know what you are thinking, and no, I don't keep food around forever!
Back to my story...
I'm sitting, enjoying my nice, not expired turkey sandwich, when I hear "OH GROSS!" from the kitchen.
"What is it?" I said.
"There are bugs in this mac & cheese!" Mike proclaimed. Yeah, I thought, go figure.
"So I guess those expiration dates are there for a reason?" I said.
Needless to say both boxes of mac & cheese got tossed and Mike joined me in eating a turkey sandwich.
Just goes to show you that the wife is always right!
