We just got back from a weekend ski trip to Park City, Utah. This was my first skiing trip of the season. We'll be going a few more times this year, and have a family trip planned with Mike's sister's family (who all ski better than I do) so I'm hoping to get better before the family trip.
It was freezing this weekend. It was 5 degrees during the day, and everyone on the slopes was feeling the chill. The ski stores were selling those air-activated, disposable hand and toe warmers like hot cakes. Mike and I had to invest in mittens (warmer than normal ski gloves) and I was still having a hard time feeling the tips of my fingers. My toes were freezing - and it didn't help that we left our ski boots in the trunk of the car overnight. Sunday came and it was near impossible to put on our boots that morning. Note to self - never leave ski boots in car overnight. We also left some apple juice in the car overnight and it was FROZEN the next day!
Alex didn't get to go skiing this time. He did have fun at the child care center though. He can start skiing at age 3, provided he is potty-trained. Yet another reason to try and potty train him early! I'm sure he will be skiing better than Mommy by the time he is five.
You would think I would be good at skiing since I went to two of the biggest ski universities in the nation. Even though I went to college in Reno (think Tahoe) and Colorado (think Vail), I never skied in Reno, and only skied twice during the 3 years I went to college in Colorado before graduating and moving to Arizona. 1996 was the last time I skied before I went skiing again in March of 2006.
Being raised in Hawai'i, skiing was not an activity of choice for me. I didn't really see snow until I went to college in Colorado. Since moving to Arizona in 1999, I have forgotten how cold it gets in the winter in places where it snows!
